Trump recently tweeted this out, in regard to claims of fake news surrounding him and his presidency. The Hill published a very enlightening article covering this tweet. Fake News is a new phrase and it seems to have surrounded President Trump. This is leaving the public confused. It is very arguable that this is hurting the American Democracy. Media is supposed to inform the public and the only thing it is doing is confusing the public.
President Trump states that the media has lost credibility, with almost half the voters thinking that media makes up stories about him.

The Hill quotes Trump saying:

"Network news has become so partisan, distorted and fake that licenses must be challenged and, if appropriate, revoked," Trump wrote on Twitter. "Not fair to public!"
Trump also called reporters at some news networks “fiction writers” in a tweet last Tuesday.
I urge you to go view President Trumps tweets, along with the comments and people that react to them. Going through social media sites like twitter display how much this Fake News phrase has grown.

  1. The term fake news has really gained popularity because of the amount of times Trump has used the term. He even falsely claimed that he had coined the term himself (which is not true). President Trump seems to like to use the term to defend himself against attacks from news sources that are more liberal biased and outwardly show their disagreement with Trump's actions.
